Striping Season in NW Chicago
Freeze and thaw is the thing that ages a lot here. Water gets into a hairline crack, freezes, widens it, and the next thaw lets more water in — and between those cycles, plow blades scrape paint off the high spots and deicing salt sits on the surface all winter. That is why a lot in Wheeling or Palatine can look fine in November and read as faded by April, even though nothing drove over it for months.
So the work is seasonal, and we schedule it that way. Layout and restriping run from spring through late fall, when surface conditions hold long enough for traffic paint to cure properly; the manufacturer’s product data sheet for the material we are applying sets the minimum surface temperature and the humidity ceiling for that product, and we do not apply outside it. The National Weather Service Chicago office publishes the local climate normals that frame that window. Spring is the busiest stretch, because most properties want the winter’s damage gone before their season starts, so booking ahead of the thaw is the difference between striping in April and waiting for a slot in June.
Interior work is the exception. Warehouse and distribution floors in the Wheeling and O’Hare corridor are climate-controlled, so warehouse line painting runs year-round and is often the sensible thing to schedule in January while the outdoor calendar is quiet.

Who is behind 1-800-STRIPER® of NW Chicago
Javier Castaneda
Javier Castaneda
Owner
Javier has called Chicago home for more than a decade. He attended Purdue University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering, then went on to gain his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. After graduating, he worked as a traffic and transportation design engineer, medical device territory manager, construction technology research analyst, and in business development for a water utility technology company.
Javier gained an appreciation for the simplicity yet importance of high-quality pavement striping after his studies in traffic and transportation, where he designed plans for traffic, parking lots, parking garages, and signage. This, combined with his passion for products and services that benefit the public, inspired his transition to the striping industry.
After exploring several options within the pavement marking space, Javier found his ideal fit with 1-800-STRIPER®. He was impressed by the franchise team’s passion for striping and their core values of loyalty, honesty, and excellence aligned perfectly with his own.
Javier is dedicated to serving clients with integrity and respect. He knows that proper striping can have a big impact on a property’s value and a business’s ability to operate safely. He believes that when businesses provide high-quality work in an area the public needs and demands, everybody wins. Driven by hard work, hands-on leadership, and continued investment in the community, Javier and the whole 1-800-STRIPER® of NW Chicago crew look forward to becoming a cog in the fabric of the Chicago metro area.

Parking Lot Striping in NW Chicago — Frequently Asked Questions
What is needed to stripe a parking lot?
Parking lot striping needs two things: a clean, dry surface and a plan. Before any paint goes down the lot has to be swept or washed so the paint bonds instead of sitting on dust and oil film, and the layout has to be settled — how many stalls, where the accessible spaces and access aisles go, where fire lanes and drive aisles run. On a repaint the existing lines are the plan. On a new or reconfigured lot we lay it out first, against the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and your municipality’s own parking-area rules.
Do you need a permit to restripe a parking lot?
Usually not for a like-for-like repaint of an existing layout, but this is decided by your municipality, not by the state — Illinois has no single statewide answer, and the forty-six towns we serve each run their own code. Changing the layout is the case that most often triggers a review: adding stalls, moving drive aisles, or altering accessible parking counts can require sign-off from the village. We will tell you which side of that line your job falls on before we schedule it.
How often should parking lot striping be done?
Most commercial lots in this climate need refreshing every one to three years, and the spread inside that range is mostly traffic and winter. A quiet office lot holds its lines longer than a grocery or medical lot that runs full every day and gets plowed and salted all winter. Rather than working to a calendar, look at whether drivers still park square to the lines, whether the accessible symbols and access-aisle hatching are still obvious, and whether fire lane markings are still legible.
Which towns do you serve?
Forty-six towns across fifty-eight ZIP codes in Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. That includes Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Evanston, Skokie, Niles, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Park Ridge, Northbrook, Glenview, Wilmette and Rosemont in Cook; Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Barrington, Lake Zurich, Mundelein and Lincolnshire in Lake; and Crystal Lake, Cary, McHenry and Fox River Grove in McHenry. We are based at 301 W Hintz Rd in Wheeling, so most of the territory is a short drive.
Can you stripe our lot without shutting the business down?
That is the normal way we run a job here. Customers describe us working around their operating schedule repeatedly in our Google reviews, and on a live property we usually stripe in sections — half the lot at a time, or after hours — so parking stays available while the paint cures. Warehouse and distribution floors are the same idea indoors: we mark around live operations and phase the work aisle by aisle rather than stopping the building.
How much does parking lot striping cost?
It depends on the size of the lot, its condition, how much of the layout is changing, and whether prep work like pressure washing is needed first — so we do not publish a figure that would be wrong for most properties. Call (847) 449-8501 for a free estimate and we will price the actual lot. Estimates are free, and we will tell you honestly if a full restripe is not what your property needs yet.
We’ll make your parking lot pop.
