Only pickleball has one number that fits every court, which is why it is the only one we print. Tennis, volleyball and basketball do not. A tournament court, a high-school court and a park half-court answer to different published dimensions, and those documents get revised. So rather than publish a figure that may not be current or may not be yours, we pull the governing body’s live specification for your level of play, confirm it with you in writing, and mark to that.
That is not evasion. It is the difference between a court that plays and a court that has to be ground off and repainted.
Multi-use court striping and overlay colors
A multi-use court carries two or more sports on one slab. The lines only work if the color hierarchy does: the dominant sport takes the primary color, each other sport a contrasting one.
Where lines cross, the primary line stays continuous and the secondary breaks or offsets. Pickleball inside an existing tennis court is the overlay customers ask for most. USA Pickleball also recommends orienting an outdoor court north–south, so players are not looking into the sun.
Surface Prep, Acrylic Court Paint and Cure
Preparation is most of the job. Court paint fails on a dirty or damp surface. Concrete and asphalt both take acrylic coating so long as the surface is free of debris. We pressure wash the slab and profile concrete so the coating can grip. Where asphalt has cracked, we flag it before we quote — a coating laid over a live crack telegraphs it back through the surface, so that repair belongs ahead of our work, not under it.
We pressure wash, repair, then confirm the slab is dry with the field test in TxDOT Item 666: a one-square-foot sheet of clear plastic, weighed down and checked after 15 minutes. No condensation underneath means dry.
Cure depends on the coating, the coats, and the weather. Rather than quote a number that may not hold, we put your return-to-play window in writing. The freeze-free window here runs from about March 12 to November 22.

What are the court dimensions for each sport?

Can you add pickleball lines to an existing tennis court?
Yes, and it is the most common overlay we do. A 20-by-44-foot pickleball court fits inside a standard doubles tennis court, so the tennis lines stay where they are and we mark pickleball over them in a contrasting color. The 7-foot non-volley zone goes down to USA Pickleball’s dimensions, and the tennis lines stay dominant.
What surface prep is needed before court striping?
Clean, sound, and dry. We pressure wash the slab and clean and profile concrete so the coating can grip, and we flag cracked asphalt as a repair to settle before the coating goes on. To prove the slab is dry we use the TxDOT Item 666 test: a one-square-foot sheet of clear plastic, weighed down and checked after 15 minutes, with no condensation underneath.
How long does acrylic court paint take to cure?
No single number covers it. Cure depends on the coating, how many coats the court needs, and the temperature and humidity on the day. So you get a return-to-play window in writing for your job, not a figure that may not hold. Each coat must dry before the next goes on, and we will not paint a damp surface.
How do overlay colors work on a multi-use court?
The dominant sport keeps the primary line color, and its lines run continuously. Every other sport gets a contrasting color, and where lines meet the secondary breaks or offsets, so the primary court reads clean. Contrast against the playing surface is the point, not decoration. We map the overlay with you before masking, because changing it later means recoating.
Can you stripe both asphalt and concrete courts?
Both. Concrete and asphalt each work outdoors so long as the surface is free of debris, and both accept acrylic court coating. What changes is the preparation. Asphalt cracks, and cracks have to be settled before a coating goes over them; concrete has joints and a harder, smoother finish that we clean and profile first. We assess the substrate on site before quoting and tell you what the slab needs.
