Signs We Install
Eighteen inches wide by twenty-four inches tall, weather-resistant, with the bottom edge between five and eight feet off the ground. That is not our house standard for a tow-away sign — it is what the Texas Occupations Code requires, and it is typical of how specific parking-lot signage actually gets.

Mounting, Placement, and Visibility
A sign that meets its specification and sits in the wrong place does no work. Three things decide whether signage actually functions.
Height. Accessible parking signs must be at least 60 inches above the finish floor or ground surface, measured to the bottom of the sign. Tow-away signs under the Texas Occupations Code must be installed so the bottom edge is no lower than five feet and no higher than eight feet above ground level. Both requirements exist because a sign hidden behind a parked vehicle is not a sign.
Placement. Tow-away signs must be facing and conspicuously visible to the driver of a vehicle entering the facility, and located on the right or left side of each driveway or curb-cut through which a vehicle can enter — including an entry from an alley. Where curbs, barriers, landscaping or driveways do not create definite entrances and the entrance width exceeds 35 feet, signs go at intervals so that no entrance is farther than 25 feet from a sign.
Mounting. Tow-away signs have to be permanently mounted on a pole, post, permanent wall or permanent barrier, installed on the parking facility itself, and made of weather-resistant material. We set posts properly rather than strapping signs to whatever is nearby, because a sign that comes down in a Gulf Coast storm takes your enforcement with it.
For fire lanes in unincorporated Harris County, Appendix D sets the sign spacing pattern by road width: roads 20 to 26 feet wide get signs on both sides, and roads more than 26 and less than 32 feet wide get signs on one side.

What signs does an accessible parking space require?
Under the 2010 ADA Standards, parking space identification signs must include the International Symbol of Accessibility, and signs identifying van parking spaces must additionally carry the designation “van accessible.” The sign must be mounted at least 60 inches above the ground, measured to the bottom of the sign. Texas properties also fall under the Texas Accessibility Standards, administered by TDLR.
How high must a parking lot sign be mounted?
It depends on the sign. Accessible parking signs: at least 60 inches to the bottom of the sign. Tow-away signs under the Texas Occupations Code: bottom edge no lower than five feet and no higher than eight feet above ground level. Those are different requirements from different instruments, and a lot that needs both has to satisfy both.
What does a fire lane sign have to look like in unincorporated Harris County?
Harris County adopted the 2021 International Fire Code including Appendix D, so Section D103.6 governs. Fire apparatus access roads, where the fire code official requires signs, get permanent “NO PARKING—FIRE LANE” signs complying with Figure D103.6, with a minimum dimension of 12 inches wide by 18 inches high and red letters on a white reflective background. Roads 20 to 26 feet wide get signs on both sides; roads more than 26 and less than 32 feet wide get them on one side. Inside Houston and the incorporated cities, that jurisdiction sets the requirement instead.
What does Texas require on a tow-away sign?
More than most property owners expect, and Chapter 2308 of the Occupations Code sets all of it. The sign must be weather-resistant, at least 18 inches wide and 24 inches tall, and carry the international symbol for towing vehicles. It must say who may park there and prohibit everyone else, bear the words “Unauthorized Vehicles Will Be Towed or Booted at Owner’s or Operator’s Expense” or the towed-only or booted-only variant, give the days and hours of enforcement, and include a 24-hour telephone number with area code. The statute also fixes the colors and three lettering heights.
Do you install building or electrical signage?
No. We install parking-lot regulatory signage — accessible-space signs, fire lane signs, tow-away notices, directional and reserved-parking signs, and the posts and hardware that hold them. Building signage, channel letters, monument signs, illuminated and electrical signage are a different trade with different licensing, and we do not do that work. If that is what you are looking for, a commercial sign company is the right call.
Can signs go in without restriping the lot?
Yes. Sign installation is a standalone service and plenty of properties need it on its own — a tow-away sign after a parking problem, replacement accessible signage after a compliance review, or fire lane signs a fire marshal has asked for. That said, if the lot is being restriped anyway, doing both in one visit is cheaper in mobilization and gets the markings and the signs matched to each other.
