At least 1 in every 6 accessible spaces must be van-accessible. Each accessible space needs an adjoining access aisle, the ISA symbol painted in the stall, and an upright sign — van-accessible spaces add a “van accessible” designation. Accessible spaces must sit on the shortest accessible route to the building entrance.
Our process:
- Audit. We count your total spaces, determine the required number of accessible and van-accessible stalls, and check your existing spaces against current standards.
- Lay out. We mark accessible stalls and access aisles at the correct dimensions, on the closest route to the entrance.
- Stripe and symbol. We paint the stall lines, access-aisle hatching, and the International Symbol of Accessibility in each space.
- Sign. We confirm the upright ISA signage and van-accessible designation are in place at the required height.
If your accessible parking has fallen out of compliance — faded symbols, undersized aisles, missing signs — we bring it back up to standard.
ADA Signage and Symbol Requirements
Striping is only part of ADA compliance — signage completes it. Every accessible space needs an upright sign displaying the International Symbol of Accessibility, mounted so the bottom of the sign sits at least 60 inches above the ground, keeping it visible even when a vehicle occupies the space. Van-accessible spaces carry an added “van accessible” designation below the main sign.
On the pavement, we paint the International Symbol of Accessibility inside each accessible stall and mark the access aisle with diagonal hatching and a “no parking” legend, so the aisle stays clear for wheelchair and lift access. The blue-and-white symbol is the universally recognized marker, and keeping it crisp and high-contrast is part of staying compliant.

What are the dimensions of an ADA accessible parking space?
