What ADA-Compliant Striping Includes
ADA striping makes a lot usable by people with disabilities and keeps the property compliant. The work covers accessible parking stalls, the striped access aisles beside them, the International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) painted in each stall, the accessible route from stall to building entrance, and the signage that marks each space. Every element has a dimension or placement rule behind it.
Federal ADA + Georgia Accessibility Code
Two layers apply in Central Atlanta. The federal 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design set the national baseline for accessible parking — counts, stall and aisle dimensions, signage, and routes. Georgia adds a state layer through the Georgia Accessibility Code (O.C.G.A. Title 30, Chapter 3), which governs access to and use of public facilities by people with disabilities. Most competitors cite the federal standard only; we work to both, because a Georgia commercial property answers to the state requirement as well as the federal one.
Accessible Stall Counts by Lot Capacity (§208.2)
Section 208.2 of the 2010 ADA Standards scales accessible spaces to the size of the lot:
| Total spaces | Minimum accessible | Of which van-accessible |
|---|---|---|
| 1–25 | 1 | 1 |
| 26–50 | 2 | 1 |
| 51–75 | 3 | 1 |
| 76–100 | 4 | 1 |
| 101–150 | 5 | 1 |
| 151–200 | 6 | 1 |
At least one of every six accessible spaces must be van-accessible. We confirm your total count first, then place the right number of accessible stalls on the shortest accessible route to the entrance.
Van-Accessible Stalls, Access Aisles & ISA Symbols (§502)
Under Section 502, a car-accessible stall is at least 8 feet wide with a 5-foot access aisle; a van-accessible stall is at least 8 feet wide with an 8-foot access aisle (or 11 feet wide with a 5-foot aisle). Access aisles must be marked so they’re not mistaken for parking, must be level (slopes no steeper than 1:48 in all directions), and may be shared between two stalls. Each aisle connects to an accessible route to the building, and each accessible stall gets the ISA symbol painted on the pavement.
Required Signage & Mount Height (§502.6 / §703)
Each accessible space needs a sign bearing the ISA, mounted so the bottom of the sign is at least 60 inches above the ground so it stays visible when a vehicle is parked in the space. Van spaces add a “van accessible” designation. We install the signage along with the striping so the space is complete and compliant.
The Accessible Route
Compliance doesn’t stop at the stall. The 2010 ADA Standards require an accessible route from the access aisle to the building entrance — firm, stable, slip-resistant, wide enough, and free of abrupt level changes. We lay out accessible stalls where that route is shortest and unobstructed, so a compliant space actually connects to a compliant path.
Our Compliance Process
We measure the lot, calculate the required accessible count from the total, lay out stalls and aisles on the accessible route, paint stalls, aisles, and ISA symbols, and mount the signage. We don’t quote fines or legal outcomes — we direct you to a free estimate; the point is a lot that passes.

Frequently Asked Questions About ADA Parking Lot Striping in Central Atlanta, GA
How many ADA spaces does my Atlanta lot need?
It scales with your total under 2010 ADA Standards §208.2 — one accessible space up to 25 total, two up to 50, three up to 75, four up to 100, and up from there. At least one of every six accessible spaces must be van-accessible. We calculate it from your actual count.
How wide is an ADA access aisle?
Per §502, a standard accessible stall needs a 5-foot access aisle; a van-accessible stall needs an 8-foot aisle (or an 11-foot-wide stall with a 5-foot aisle). The aisle is striped so it’s not mistaken for a parking space, kept nearly level, and two stalls can share one aisle.
How high should the ADA sign be mounted?
The sign with the International Symbol of Accessibility should be mounted with its bottom edge at least 60 inches above the ground, so it stays visible when a vehicle occupies the space. Van spaces add a “van accessible” sign.
Does Georgia have its own accessibility requirements beyond federal ADA?
Yes. The Georgia Accessibility Code (O.C.G.A. Title 30, Chapter 3) governs access to public facilities for people with disabilities at the state level, in addition to the federal 2010 ADA Standards. We stripe to both.
What happens if our accessible spaces aren’t compliant?
Non-compliant accessible parking exposes a property to complaints and creates real barriers for customers who need it. We don’t quote fines or legal outcomes — we fix the striping and signage so the lot meets the 2010 ADA Standards and the Georgia Accessibility Code.
Can you bring an older lot up to current ADA standards?
Yes. We measure the existing lot, compare it to the current 2010 ADA Standards, and restripe the accessible stalls, aisles, ISA symbols, signage, and access route to meet the count and dimensions your lot size requires.
