We do not publish an average, because an average would mislead you. What drives the price of your lot: its size and stall count, whether we are restriping an existing layout or setting out a new one, the condition of the surface and how much cleaning or preparation it needs, how many accessible spaces the ADA count requires along with their signage, the paint system, and whether we can work in normal hours or have to come in overnight. Usually it is not the paint — it is everything around it. A lot has to be cleaned before anything is applied, because paint fails on dirt rather than on age. A new layout has to be measured and set out before a line is painted. Accessible spaces bring dimensional requirements and signage. And a lot that can only be worked overnight or in sections costs more than one handed over empty. When a quote looks high, the honest question is which of those it is covering.

By walking it. We measure the lot, count the stalls, look at the surface condition and the drainage, check what the accessible-space count should be against Table 208.2 of the 2010 ADA Standards, and work out what has to happen before any paint goes down. Then you get a written estimate listing what is being marked and what is not. It costs nothing and it is the only way to get a number that survives contact with the actual lot.

It depends far more on what the lot endures than on the calendar. In this part of Indiana the limiting factor is winter: plow blades scrape lines off, and de-icing salt works on what is left. A lot that is plowed hard and salted every winter fades faster than a low-traffic lot that is not. The practical test is not age — it is whether a driver can still read the stalls, the arrows, and the accessible markings from inside a car. When they cannot, it is due.

Retail lots, restaurants, and medical parks often cannot give up their parking during the day, and warehouses cannot stop the line, so a great deal of this work happens early, late, or across a weekend. Paint also needs a cure window before traffic returns to it, which is a property of the coating and the conditions rather than of how quickly anyone wants the lot back.
