Do you only stripe asphalt?
No. Permanent striping goes on asphalt and concrete, and temporary layouts go on grass, gravel, pavement, or any surface a site presents. Overflow parking for an event is routinely marked on turf or an unpaved lot. What changes between surfaces is the material and the expected service life, not whether the job can be done at all.
How is an accessible space supposed to be marked in Massachusetts?
Federal law sets the stall and aisle, then hands off the marking method. The 2010 ADA Standards say at section 502.3.3 that access aisles must be marked to discourage parking in them, and the accompanying advisory states the method and color are not specified federally but may be addressed by state or local law. Massachusetts answers directly: 521 CMR 23.4.6(e) requires diagonal stripes.
Does Massachusetts require fire lanes to be painted?
Marking requirements for fire apparatus access roads are set locally in Massachusetts, so the specification comes from your municipality’s fire department rather than from a single statewide paint standard. The state code does set the timing: 527 CMR 1.00 provides at section 16.1.5 that permanent access road markings are not required until the building is complete or occupied for use.
