Does a Corpus Christi parking lot have to be striped at all?
Yes, once it reaches four spaces. The Corpus Christi Unified Development Code sets the standard in Section 7.2.5.A: any vehicular use area containing four or more vehicle spaces has to be paved with an all-weather material, and all parking spaces have to be legibly marked on the pavement. Parking lot striping in Corpus Christi is not a cosmetic choice at that size. It is part of what makes the lot a compliant parking facility.
Do I need a permit to build a parking lot here?
For four spaces or more, yes. Section 7.2.5.B of the Unified Development Code requires a building permit under Section 3.18 for the construction of any parking lot required by the terms of this Unified Development Code that contains four or more vehicle spaces. Re-marking an existing lot is a different question, and the answer depends on what you are changing. Corpus Christi Development Services is the office that decides that one, and we are happy to walk the lot with you before you call them.
Is there a striping season in Corpus Christi?
Not really, and that is unusual. NOAA U.S. Climate Normals record only 4.3 nights a year at or below freezing at Corpus Christi International Airport. Contractors in northern markets lose months to cold-weather cure limits. Here the constraint runs the other way, so we schedule around heat and rain rather than around winter. Most of the calendar is workable.
What is the difference between striping and restriping?
Parking lot striping lays out a lot that has no markings yet, or replaces a layout with a new one. Restriping refreshes lines that already exist, following the layout that is already on the ground. Striping starts with measurement and a plan. Restriping starts with what is there and brings it back to legible. The paint is the same. The design work is not.
